Senegal have defeated in a behind closed doors friendly in Austria. Konate’s penalty sealed the win after Senegal took the lead through an own goal.

Senegal went into the game on the back of two underwhelming friendly performances in which they narrowly lost 2-1 to Croatia following a shock 0-0 draw against minnows Luxembourg, although the latter have also recently drawn against France who remain one of the favourites to win the World Cup.

Following a cagy first half, Senegal eventually took the lead when Alfred Ndiaye’s cross was inadvertently turned into the net by Kim Young Gwon.

The friendly was intended to provide more preparation for Senegal than for South Korea as the Lions of Teranga are in a group with nearby Japan in the .

Senegal took the opportunity to prepare with both hands as they doubled their lead late on thanks to a Moussa Konate penalty. Konate will be hoping that the goal will secure him a starting berth at the World Cup as he faces stiff competition from Moussa Sow.

Senegal’s next game is their World Cup opener against group favourites Poland on June 19th at 5PM Egyptian time, after which they travel to face Japan before closing out the group against Colombia.
