Mohamed Salah set to feature against Uruguay on Friday
All eyes have been on Egypt’s camp as Mohamed Salah has fought against time to be fit for Egypt’s first World Cup game in 28 years. After the “Egyptian King” suffered a shoulder injury in the Champions League final, he spent a couple weeks in Spain undergoing rehab while Egypt drew Colombia and lost to Belgium in two friendlies.
In the days leading up to the World Cup, members of the technical staff and EFA have stressed Salah’s improvement but were hesitant to give a definite timeline on the forward’s return. Many videos and photos have emerged from the team’s practices showing Salah completing individual training. Yesterday was the first day that the 25-year old forward practiced with the team, a mere two days before the Uruguay clash.
On Thursday, however, head coach Héctor Cúper gave Egyptians the news they’ve been waiting for. “Salah feels very good. He quickly recovered. already trained with us. Let’s see how this session will take place, but I can say almost one hundred percent that he will play,” the Argentinian manager confirmed.
Egypt will face Uruguay in their first group at sage match on Friday June 15 before facing Russia and Saudi Arabia on June 19 and June 25 respectively.
