Ahmed Fathi confident Egypt will qualify for round of 16
Despite the last minute loss, Egyptian defender Fathi had a top game making seven successful tackles more than any player on the pitch.
In an interview with beIN Sports after the game, the fullback said: “We played a good game but we were unlucky not to grab a win or a draw, and this is football, sometimes it hits you hard, but I am optimistic about the coming games.
“The loss makes it a little more difficult to qualify, and we have two tough matches, but I am confident we will win them and qualify for the next round.
“The goal came from a free-kick, we could not keep the ball away, and this football, luck is not always on your side, but we praise God for everything,” he added.
Russia sit at the top of the group after beating Saudi Arabia with five goals and are followed by Uruguay in second place.
Egypt will face the hosts Russia this Tuesday at Saint Petersburg Stadium, as a win is crucial if the Pharaohs are willing to continue their World Cup journey.
