Morocco falls against Iran with a late own goal
Morocco started the game fiercely as Younes Belhanda’s early header sailed over the bar.
In the 19th minute, the Moroccans nearly opened the scoreline following a goalmouth scramble inside the box, but Iran’s defence eventually cleared the ball to a corner.
11 minutes later, Amine Harit went past Iran’s backline but his shot was blocked by Iran’s goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand.
Just two minutes before the halftime whistle, Iran’s Sardar Azmoun clear chance was saved by Morocco’s goalkeeper Munir.
In the 49th minute, Nordin Amrabat cross found Harit, however, the latter failed to find the back of the net.
10 minutes before the fulltime whistle, Hakim Ziyech half volley from the edge of the box forced Beiranvand to an excellent save.
In the dying moments of the game, Iran snatched the full three points as Bouhaddouz’s header found the back of his own net.
Following the match, Iran tops Group B table with three points, while, Morocco sits fourth with no points ahead of Spain’s clash against Portugal.
