Goalscorer José Giménez pleased with ‘tough’ Egypt win
Following their 1-0 over Egypt, Uruguay’s José Giménez spoke about the last minute victory and how vital it is for them in the group.
In the dying minutes of the first World Cup game for Egypt, Gimenez rose above all the Pharaoh defenders and scored the only goal of the game to give Uruguay the three points.
Atletico Madrid defender Giménez said: “A very important win against a tough team, it was vital to win such a complex game in the opening match of the group.”
“It was a tough meeting and we had to make the most of the chances,” the 23-year-old added.
Russia sit at the top of the group after beating Saudi Arabia with five goals and are followed by Uruguay in second place.
Egypt will face the hosts Russia this Tuesday at Saint Petersburg Stadium, as a win is crucial if the Pharaohs are willing to continue their World Cup journey.
