Mohamed El-Shennawy named man of the match in Uruguay defeat
Egypt international goalkeeper Mohamed El-Shennawy has been named as man of the match following his exceptional performance against Uruguay.
The 29-year-old started between the sticks instead of Essam El-Hadary and pulled off a string of remarkable saves, but unfortunately couldn’t stop José Giménez’s last-minute header.
El-Shennawy, who plies his trade for Al Ahly, denied Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani a couple of times, including a great save to stop Cavani’s belter.
However, a 90-minute header from defender José Giménez earned a massive three points for Uruguay and made Egypt leave the game empty-handed.
Egypt are currently third in group A behind Russia and Uruguay, with their next game taking place against the hosts on Tuesday, June 19.
