Russia’s Aleksandr Golovin: Egypt are a powerful team
Golovin statements’ came after he watched the Celeste earn a last-gasp 1-0 win over Egypt ‘in Group A’s second match on Friday afternoon. The game was held one day after Russia’s opener which saw the hosts thrash Saudi Arabia 5-0, with the 22-year-old midfielder getting his name on the score sheet after scoring the fifth goal from a free-kick.
The CSKA Moscow player, who watched as Uruguay defeated the Pharaohs through Jose Gimenez’s late header in the dying minutes of the match, believes his team will face two tough opponents in their upcoming games.
“I watched Egypt’s game against Uruguay. Both teams played very well. These are very powerful teams. I would like to note that they play at a high tempo,” he said, according to Russian-owned Sputnik news agency. “We have not discussed anything and we are more focused on our own game. We will do our best to win,” he added.
Russia are set to take on Egypt in the group’s second round on Tuesday, while Uruguay will face Saudi Arabia on Wednesday. The final round will see Russia play Uruguay and Egypt face Saudi Arabia on June 25.
