Martin Jakubko: Russia can beat Egypt and Uruguay
Russia destroyed Saudi Arabia 5-0 in the opening game of the World Cup, while Egypt suffered a 1-0 late defeat against Uruguay.
The former striker for Amkar Perm and Slovakia’s national team has high hopes for the hosts and believes they have what it takes to walk triumphal out of their next two ties.
“The following games [against Egypt and Uruguay] will be harder but it is possible [for Russia] to beat Egypt and Uruguay,” Jakubko told Sputnik.
Jakubo attended Russia’s game against Saudi Arabia and was astonished by the virtuoso displays of the home side.
“Honestly, I was pleasantly surprised by Russia [game with Saudi Arabia].
“I was at the match, the outcome was surprising. The guys were good, did well, earned the win. Saudi Arabia did not create any chances,” he added.
Russia currently top the group after their 5-0 win against Saudi Arabia, while Egypt sit third behind Uruguay, who managed to snatch a late 1-0 win against the Pharaohs.
The hosts will meet Egypt for the first time in the two countries’ history this Tuesday at Saint Petersburg Stadium.
