Alan Dzagoev: Egypt at higher level than Saudi Arabia
Dzagoev, who is celebrating his 28th birthday on Sunday, will miss Russia’s remaining two games in the group stage after he sustained a hamstring injury against Saudia Arabia.
He is a crucial member of the Russia squad and is one of the most experienced players in the team as he was capped 58 times by the Russian national team, scoring nine goals.
The CSKA Moscow midfielder will need at least ten days to recover, meaning he will miss the Egypt and Uruguay games.
“The team has not given me anything [for the birthday] yet, but a positive result against Egypt would be enough,” Dzagoev said.
“We watched Egypt’s previous game. They’re good at pressing and defense, of course, [they are] at a higher level than Saudi Arabia.
“I hope, we’ll win, we hope for a positive result,” he added.
Russia currently top the group, while Egypt sit third behind Uruguay, who managed to snatch a late 1-0 win against the Pharaohs.
The hosts will face Egypt on Tuesday, June 19 at 20:00 CLT, a day before Uruguay’s clash with Saudi Arabia.
