Alan Dzagoev ruled-out of Egypt game
Russia midfielder Alan Dzagoev has been ruled-out of Russia’s game against Egypt on Tuesday after he sustained a hamstring injury against Saudia Arabia.
The 28-year-old is a crucial member in the Russia squad and is one of the most experienced players in the team as he was caped 58 times by the Russian national team, scoring nine goals.
The Russia national team official twitter account confirmed that the player will not fly to Saint Petersburg and will remain in Moscow to continue his rehabilitation program.
Later on the player himself confirmed that the only way for him to play another game in the competition will be if Russia qualify to the round of 16, meaning that he’ll also miss the Uruguay game.
“I hope to have more time to play at the World Cup. To do this, we need to qualify from the group.” Dzagoev told the Russia national team Twitter account.
The hosts will face Egypt with a lot of confidence especially after their 5-0 win over Saudi Arabia in the opening match. Their final group stage game will be against Uruguay on June 25.
