President gave a speech to the players, encouraging them to play a game that will go down in history of this nation.

According to a statment by the EFA, a meeting was held by the man at the helm of the Egyptian Football Association and the full squad after dinner last night at St. Petersburg.  In the meeting, Abou-Rida assured the players he has full faith that they can beat Russia and give all the country hope to qualify to the next round.

The president asked his players not to worry about facing the hosts with all their fans, and was confident that Mohamed Salah’s presence will instill a different mentality to the players on the pitch.

“You are writing chapters of history for Egyptian football and for yourselves, and you have the love and support of all the members of the board of directors and we hope to continue our journey for this country together as we still have high hopes for Egyptian football.”

Abou-Rida concluded by telling the players that they must prove to the world tomorrow that they can continue to earn their respect just as they did in the Uruguay match and that the Egyptian team is one that opponents must fear.

Egypt lost against Uruguay in the dying minutes of the first round in the World Cup and will face Russia for the first time in their history tonight in a decisive game for the Pharaohs’ journey in the grandest football competition.

We wrote history. We never conceded more than one goal in a World Cup game. Now we conceded three. Well done..
