Mido suggests reserving Salah for final 20 minutes against Russia
Former Egypt international Ahmed Hossam Mido has warned the Egyptian national team about facing a ‘clever’ side in Russia, recommending to the technical staff to keep Salah on the bench until the final 20 minutes
Egypt will face off in a crucial game against Russia in the 2018 World Cup Group A as they pursue keeping their second round qualification alive.
The Pharaohs had lost their group opener against Uruguay at final stretch with Jose Maria Gimenez’s header, while Russia tormented Saudi Arabia in their first game 5-0.
“Egypt will face Russia in a game against a clever opponent which play on their points of strength in different ways and according to the available players,” Mido wrote on his Twitter account.
“We must play with big confidence and don’t let them turn the game into a physical one, I wish our guys the best and we are all confident you will play a big game.”
Egypt star Mohamed Salah will reportedly start against the World Cup hosts after missing out on the Pharaoh’s first game against Uruguay due to his shoulder issues, but Mido believes he should be kept on the bench.
“I don’t know how the game will go but starting with Salah is a big gamble for him and for the team due to the nature of his injury. We all know that shoulder injuries can be renewed with the first challenge, if he comes off for any reason the team will collapse morally. The best thing is to reserve him for the last 20 minutes.”
