Ahmed Musa nets a brace as Nigeria defeat Iceland 2-0
Iceland started on the front foot, as Gylfi Sigurdsson’s dangerous freekick was successfully cleared by Nigeria’s goalkeeper Francis Uzoho.
Sigurdsson tried his luck, but once again his efforts was saved by Uzoho. The Super Eagles maintained position and tried to break the deadlock until the referee blew the halftime whistle.
Just four minutes after the restart, Musa opened the scoring as he volleyed Victor Mosses’ cross into the back of Iceland’s net.
In the 75th minute, Musa scored his second goal of the night as he brilliantly dribbled past Iceland’s goalkeeper and scored into the empty net.
Iceland got a chance to decrease the deficit, as they were awarded a penalty kick following VAR assistance. However, Sigurdsson failed to pull one back as his shot went over the bar.
Following the match, the Super Eagles moved a step closer to clinch qualification to the round of 16 as they sit second in Group D with three points, while, Icelands sits third with one point.
