OFFICIAL: Zamalek target Khama Billiat joins Kaizer Chiefs
Billiat, whose contract at Sundowns ended this month, emerged as a transfer target for Zamalek and the Whites were keen on signing the Zimbabwean, but the player opted to stay in South Africa.
Zamalek president Mortada Mansour has revealed earlier that his club will negotiate with Khama Billiat, a Colombian forward named Murillo, and Morocco international Ayoub El-Kaabi.
Former Zamalek assistant manager Tarek Yehia also said last November that they will try to sign the player in the January transfer window, “We will certainly try to sign [Billiat].
“If Zamalek president, Mortada Mansour, is determined to sign a player, he will bring him whatever the temptations of the Gulf clubs,” he added.
The 27-year-old has put pen to paper on a three-year deal and was announced by the club alongside Madagascar international Andriamirado ‘Dux’ Andrianarimanana and Letlhogonolo Mirwa.
Billiat broke into the scene after guiding his side to the 2016 CAF Champions League title, scoring against the Whites in group-stage at Petrosport Stadium.
He scored nine goals and assisted 8 times in 21 appearances with Sundowns last season, helping them win the league title ahead of Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs.
Overall, he made 140 appearances for the club since joining them in 2013 from Ajax Cape Town, winning three league titles, one CAF Champions League, one CAF Super Cup, and two domestic cups.
