Farida Osman wins silver in 100m butterfly event at Mediterranean Games

Almost a year after winning ’s first ever World Championships medal, earned the silver medal in the 100m butterfly event in Tarragona.

Farida started her Mediterranean Games in the 100m freestyle heats where she finished in third place qualifying her for the the finals but she did not participate in the finals. Her next event was the heats for the 100m butterfly where she finished in first place completing her heat in 1:00.10. She went on to finish in second place in the finals of the event with a time of 58.51 seconds coming in behind Italian Elena Di Liddo.

In the 100m butterfly event, Farida Osman is currently World ranked at 44th place when her then-fastest time of 59.01 was at the 2018 TYR Pro Series. The 23-year-old will continue her journey at the Mediterranean Games with the 50m butterfly on Sunday and 50m freestyle on Monday.

The 23-year-old has been a household name among swimming fans and has won many medals and awards. The University of California, Berkeley graduate was named the 2017 Best African Female Athlete last year and was recognized with The Farida Osman Swimming Complex in Zamalek last March.

In addition to being a football/soccer and basketball enthusiast, I am currently pursuing a combined BS/MD degree at VCU. I also currently work as a Pharmacy Technician in my spare time.
