Malek Salama wins bronze medal in karate at Mediterranean Games

won ’s fourth medal of the Mediterranean Games with a bronze medal in the men’s less than 60 kg event.

The 21-year-old started his day by losing to Tunisian Nader Azzoauzi six to three. In determining who would play in the bronze medal match, Salama drew Serbian Marko Antic 0-0 and qualified to the match.  The Egyptian beat Italian Angelo Crescenzo 1-0 to win the bronze medal in addition to the Turkish Eray Samdan.

Salama currently sits in 32nd place in the World Men’s less than 60 kg karate rankings with 887.50 points. He is the highest ranked Egyptian and the third highest ranked Egyptian. His last medal win came at the U21 Championships last year where he won the bronze medal in the U21 men’s less than 60 kg karate event.

In addition to being a football/soccer and basketball enthusiast, I am currently pursuing a combined BS/MD degree at VCU. I also currently work as a Pharmacy Technician in my spare time.
