Sobhi: Our ambition was to qualify for the last 16 in the World Cup
The Pharaohs waved goodbye to the biggest competition in the world of football only a couple of days after its start.
Egypt suffered defeat against Uruguay and Russia in the opening two games and now have one remaining game with the Green Falcons.
Sobhi told MBC Egypt: “I believe that all the players did all what they can do in the first two games, but in the end that was God’s will.”
“We have a match against Saudi Arabia and we want to end our World Cup journey with nice memories for the fans.”
He added: “I am upset to see Egypt out of the group stage because our ambition was to qualify for the last 16 in the World Cup.”
“I want to thank the Egyptian fans for their support in the previous matches, because of them we felt like we were home.”
Egypt will face Saudi Arabia this Monday at the Volgograd Arena, in their first encounter at a tournament since the 1999 Confederations Cup back when the Saudis nailed a 5-1 triumph.
