Giana Lotfy wins silver medal in karate at Mediterranean Games

Giana Lotfy began the Games with a 3-0 win over Portuguese Ana Simao in the Round of 16. In the quarterfinals, she beat Adelina Rama of Kosovo 10-1. Giana beat Spaniard Maria Cristina Ferrer Garcia 3-0 in the semi-final before losing to Slovenian Tjasa Ristic 2-0 in the final earning the Egyptian the silver medal.

Before the Mediterranean Games, Lotfy went a string of eight competitions with gold medals from the World Senior Championships in 2014 in Germany to the most recent edition of the competition in 2016 in Austria. In the most recent world rankings for women less than 61 kg, the 23-year-old sits in 19th place and is the second highest ranked African with 1500.00 points.

It is expected that Giana will participate in her second senior world championships in the 2018 WKF World Senior Championships in Madrid, Spain.

In addition to being a football/soccer and basketball enthusiast, I am currently pursuing a combined BS/MD degree at VCU. I also currently work as a Pharmacy Technician in my spare time.
