Marwan Elkamash wins bronze medal in 200m freestyle event

won the bronze medal in the men’s 200m freestyle event at the Mediterranean Games in Tarragona, Spain.

Earlier on Saturday, Elkamash finished in first place in the 200m freestyle heats with a time of 1:49.93 to qualify to the final swim. In the finals, the 24-year-old earned the bronze medal after completing the event in 1:48.12, just 0.12 seconds behind silver medalist Filippo Megli.

Before his medal win, Elkamash was ranked No. 50 in the men’s most recent FINA200m freestyle ranking with his 2018 TYR Pro Series time of 1:48.16. With that time, he was the highest ranked Egyptian in the event. He will be looking to win his second medal tomorrow in the 400m freestyle event.

Before swimming in Tarragona, the Indiana University graduate swam at the 2017 World Aquatics Championships and represented at the 2016 Rio De Janeiro Olympics.

In addition to being a football/soccer and basketball enthusiast, I am currently pursuing a combined BS/MD degree at VCU. I also currently work as a Pharmacy Technician in my spare time.
