Egypt’s Farida Osman wins gold at Mediterranean Games
Egyptian swimmer Farida Osman earned the gold medal in the women’s 50m butterfly event at the 2018 Mediterranean Games.
Osman finished in first place in 25.48 seconds, breaking the Mediterranean Games record. She was followed by Italy’s Elena Di Liddo and French Marie Wattel in second and third place, respectively.
This comes one day after the Egyptian champion won the silver medal in the 100m butterfly event in Tarragona. She still has a chance to collect another medal as she competes in the 50m freestyle on Monday.
The 23-year-old has been a household name among swimming fans and has won many medals and awards. The University of California, Berkeley graduate was named the 2017 Best African Female Athlete last year and was recognised with The Farida Osman Swimming Complex in Zamalek last March.
