Hector Cuper denies Mohamed Salah retirement rumors
Egypt coach Hector Cuper held the press conference after the game without Man of the Match Mohamed Salah and denied any crises in the team’s camp in Russia.
Lots of rumors went around after the 3-1 loss to Russia in the second round, that there were crises in the Pharaohs’ camp and that the Egyptian King Salah is threatening to retire from international duty for the low level of professionalism from the EFA.
Afterwards the EFA spokesman denied the rumors assuring Salah never informed them about any decisions related to retirement.
In a press conference following the 2-1 loss against Saudi Arabia, Cuper was asked about the situation of the forward and why he did not show up to the conference.
“I do not know what you’re saying, there were no crises in the team,” Cuper said.
“I do not know the reasons for that [Salah not attending the conference], all I know is that he was with the national team doctor and I do not know why he is not present at the conference.
“Retirement from the team? I think it is just rumors.
“Salah had a great performance, everyone expects a lot from him, but he needs the support of the rest of his team-mates, just like he supports them.”
