Pizzi: Saudi Arabia deserved to win, Egypt’s playing style fixed
Egypt’s national team failed to collect a single point at the 2018 FIFA World Cup after suffering their third successive defeat at the hands of Saudi Arabia.
Following two defeats against Uruguay and Russia, the Pharaohs lost 2-1 to Saudi Arabia in their third group game to finish at the bottom of Group A with zero points.
Mohamed Salah opened the score for Egypt, but Salman El-Faraj leveled things up for the Falcons before Salem El-Dawsari snatched a last-gasp winner for Saudi Arabia.
“After Egypt’s goal we managed to hold ball possession and control the game. They [Egypt] couldn’t create any chances, hence I think we deserved to win,” Pizzi said in post-match press conference.
“After the first half we thought about rising the pace of our play in order to create more scoring opportunities. I told my players that we have to be more offensive in the second half.”
“Egypt’s playing method is always the same, they don’t press to get the ball and this what we played on.”
