Mohamed Elsayed competed in the men’s Greco-Roman 67 kg event and started the Mediterranean games by beating Greece’s Apostolos Manouilidis in the quarter-final 9-0. In the semi-finals the 20-year-old defeated Syrian Abdwlkarim Alhasan 7-0. In the gold medal match, however, Elsayed lost to Frenchman Yasin Ozay 5-7 and won the silver medal. Before his silver medal in Tarragona, the Egyptian participated in the African Championships and won the gold medal in the junior Greco-Roman event.
Haitham Mahmoud beat Moroccan Anwar Tango in the quarter-finals of the men’s Greco-Roman 60 kg event before beating Croatian Ivan Lizatovic 4-2. Mahmoud went on to win the gold medal after beating Turkish Elcin Ali 9-7 in the final.
