Egypt defeat Morocco, advance to second round of FIBA World Cup qualifiers

Egypt‘s men basketball team qualifies to the second round of the African FIBA World Cup Qualifications after defeating Morocco 59-53 in their last encounter in Group C.

The result places the Pharaohs in the second place of the group behind Angola and ahead of Morocco, who both managed secured their qualification to the second round.

Egypt finished the first half with a 27-23 lead and were able to dominate the first quarter with a 6-point lead after a powerful display from Haytham Khalifa and Omar Oraby.

The Moroccans tried to come back in the second half, however, they were met by solid Egyptian defense who managed to keep the lead until the end to win the match 59-53.

Egypt’s star of the game was Haytham Khalifa who managed to score 15 points, had 7 rebounds,  7 assists and 2 steals.

The pharaohs will qualify to the second round of the African FIBA World Cup Qualifications, which includes two groups of 6 teams. The top two teams and the best third of both groups will automatically qualify to the in China.
