Christian Gross: From today I am a Zamalek fan
In what was a strange turn of events, Zamalek officially hired Christian Gross to manage the team for the upcoming season. This comes after the club had announced the former Al-Ahli coach as manager a few months ago with the deal breaking down in the final details.
This time around, however, the Chairman of Saudi’s General Authority of Sport Turki Al-Sheikh has funded the acquisition. Al-Sheikh, who was formerly Al Ahly’s honorary President, has also acquired Al Assiouty and has renamed it to Pyramids FC among other decisions.
Having led FC Basel to four Super League titles and four Swiss Cups, Gross is best known in the Middle East for leading Al-Ahli to their first league title in 32 years back in 2016 during his first spell with the club.
“I want to thank Mortada Mansour and the board for their decision to hire me. I am happy to be coaching a big club like Zamalek,” Gross began.
The Swiss coach also commented on how the players need to have ambition and a fighting spirit to achieve good results.
“From today I am a Zamalek fan. The technical staff and I will put all our energy into Zamalek. I know that Zamalek fans don’t know anything but winning trophies and games all the time,” he added.
”I respect every opponent and my goal is to win. Thank you to all,” Gross concluded.
