Ashour: Al Ahly can still win the CAF Champions League
Despite their disappointing start in the CAF Champions League, Hossam Ashour believes his club has a chance in winning the whole competition.
Al Ahly captain confirmed that the camp held in Alexandria was very successful and that new coach Patrice Carteron is working really hard with all the individuals in the squad.
The team trained for five days in Cairo before reaching Croatia to start the European camp in preparation for the new season.
Ashour added that all the players are totally focused in the camp at Croatia, and that everyone has a great desire to give their all in the coming days.
Al Ahly has two vital fixtures against Botswana’s Township Rollers; as there is no alternative to winning if the Red Devils want to continue their African journey this season.
Ashour spoke about his ankle injury, and that he is gradually recovering but as he felt some pain during training. Carterton opted to rest the midfielder.
The captain said that the team’s position in the CAF Champions League is not difficult, the same situation took place back in 2013 and the team recovered from its setback and managed to win the African title. He hopes that his team will be up to the task against Township Rollers and believes in Al Ahly’s chances of playing in the next FIFA Club World Cup.
As Ashour was raised in Al Ahly, he considers the club his home and assured that he always extends his contract without looking at his salary. The player added that he always feels the love and appreciation from the fans and the club directors and that he always turned down offers from other clubs no matter how tempting they were .
