Former Ivory Coast international Emmanuel Eboue arrested

Former Arsenal and  defender  has been arrested on suspicion of arson on Sunday.

According to the Mirror, The 35-year-old is currently being held in a police station in north London after he was detained outside a home in Enfield.

The newspaper also reports that friends of the player are concerned for Eboue’s mental and emotional state, saying that he could be unable to afford legal representation.

Eboue has lost everything and was left homeless after a failed appeal against his divorce to ex-wife Aurelie and is currently suffering from a severe mental illness.

A Met Police statement read: “Police investigating an alleged arson at a residential address in Enfield on Saturday, 30 June, arrested a 35-year-old man on suspicion of arson and malicious communications outside the address at around 17:00hrs on Saturday, 7 July.

“He was taken to a north London police station where he currently remains.”

The former Arsenal right-back played more than 160 games for the North London side, starting in their famous 2006 Champions League final against Barcelona.

Eboue also impressed on the international level as he helped his national team reach the 2006 and 2012 AFCON finals against Egypt and Zambia respectively.
