Al-Taawoun sign Cameroon international Léandre Tawamba
With support from the Chairman of the Saudi Sports Authority Turki Al-Sheikh, Al-Taawoun signed Tawamba on a two-season deal with an option for the third season. The signing is the club’s seventh of the transfer window after signing the likes of goalkeeper Cássio, winger Héldon, and forward Rabea Al-Sofiani.
Léandre Tawamba began his senior career in Cameroon with Aigle Royal Menoua. Since then, the 28-year-old forward has played with clubs in Slovakia, Libya, Kazakhstan, and Serbia.
During his time with FK Partizan Belgrade, Tawamba featured in 70 games and scored 21 goals. His most prominent contribution while playing for the Serbian-side was his goal against Young Boys in the Europa League group stages last season which helped the team qualify to the knockout stage for the first time in 13 years.
Tawamba was first called up to Cameroon’s national team in March 2018, and has played in two friendlies against Kuwait in March and Burkina Faso in May.
Al-Taawoun finished in seventh place last season, but will face a tough start to the season when they face Al-Ahli, Al-Ittihad, and Al-Nassr within the first four weeks of the league.
