Saudi-Egyptian Super Cup between Al Ahly, Al-Hilal cancelled
The Saudi-Egyptian Super Cup has been cancelled after both the Saudi Football Federation and their Egyptian counterparts failed to agree on the matches’ dates.
The game was supposed to be played over two legs between Egyptian Premier League winners Al Ahly and Saudi League champions Al-Hilal.
The competition hasn’t been organized since 2003, but both the Saudi and Egyptian federation of football decided to bring the tournament back during an Arab Football Association meeting last November.
However, both parties couldn’t agree on the two matches’ dates, which led to the cancellation of the tournament.
The competition took place twice before in 2001 and 2003 as the league winners participated in President Mubarak’s Cup Winners’ Super Cup and the cup winners on King Fahd’s League Winners’ Super Cup back then.
Zamalek were the only Egyptians champions for the competition in 2003, while Ismaily were runner-ups twice and Al Ahly once.
