LAFC make Omar Gaber move permanent, transfer him to Pyramids FC
MLS expansion side LAFC picked up their option on making Omar Gaber’s loan from FC Basel permanent. However, the club immediately completed his transfer to Egyptian Premier League side Pyramids FC.
“We would like to thank Omar for his contributions to the Club. We wish him great success as he continues his career back in Egypt,” LAFC coach Bob Bradley stated.
Gaber joined LAFC before the MLS season began and has only featured in seven games with the expansion side due to injury and the World Cup. His double move on Thursday was preceded by days of rumors of his potential switch back to the Egyptian Premier League.
On Wednesday morning, rumors were exacerbated when the Chairman of Saudi Sports Authority Turki Al-Sheikh posted pictures of Omar Gaber in front of the pyramids in Egypt. The 26-year-old will not be the first former Zamalek player to join the re-branded club, with both Ali Gabr and Ahmed Tawfik making the move.
Pyramids have brought in many new faces in hopes of surprising the Egyptian League this season. Beyond bringing in domestic stars such as Gabr and Mahmoud Afsha, Pyramids have also signed Brazilian duo Lucas Ribamar and Marcos da Silva França ‘Keno’.
The team will face ENPPI in the first round of the Egyptian Premier League before facing Al Ahly and Zamalek back-to-back in the eight and ninth weeks respectively.
