Liverpool new signing Shaqiri discusses brief time with Salah at Basel
Shaqiri have officially completed his transfer to Liverpool from Stoke City after the 2018 UEFA Champions League finalists triggered the Swiss international’s £13 million release clause with the Potters, following their relegation to the Championship.
By the end of his Basel spell in March 2012, when the Swiss club agreed a fee with Bayern Munich for his transfer, Salah was undergoing a trial period with the team ahead of a permanent move from his parent club back then, Arab Contractors, that took place in June of the same year.
Shaqiri and Salah were both involved in the same friendly when the former was playing for Basel against the 2017/2018 Premier League Player of the Year’s Egypt U-23, when Salah scored a brace.
“He came for training and a trial when I was at Basel. He came to train two or three times, I trained with him,” Shaqiri told Liverpool’s official website.
“Then I went to Bayern Munich and he stayed in Basel. I’m happy that I see him here. He had an amazing season last year and I hope he can do it this year too. I’m very happy for him that he had this beautiful season because he is a very nice guy, a good guy,” he added.
