Al Ahly boss Carteron speaks ahead of Township Rollers clash
Al Ahly new coach Patrice Carteron assured that his side is aiming to secure their first win in the group stage of the CAF Champions League when they face Township Rollers FC.
The Red Devils are currently bottom of their group with one point following a home draw with Espérance de Tunis and an away loss to Kampala City. The new coach is eager to snatch all three points next Tuesday, July 17 at Borg El-Arab, his first official game with the club.
“I always love tough challenges. I know Ahly supporters accept nothing but results and that’s what I am here for. Together we can do a good job,” the French coach told cafonline.com .
It is worth mentioning that Carteron is familiar with the Champions League as he won the title in 2015 with DR Congo side TP Mazembe.
“I know we are in a very difficult situation. We have a single point from two matches and that’s not the way it should be.
“We have nothing but to do our best in the coming games, starting from Township Rollers game at home. The maximum point is our target, and then let’s see what happens next,” he added.
As for accepting the offer to lead the Cairo giants, Carteron pointed out that could have never said no to such an offer.
“Al Ahly is the biggest team in Africa and it’s a great honor to be their coach. My target is simple: winning, winning and winning,” he said.
The game will be officiated by Algerian referee Mustapha Ghorbal, who will be assisted by compatriots Mokrane Gourari, Brahim El Hamlaoui Sid Ali, and Nabil Boukhalfa.
Ghorbal has never taken charge of an Al Ahly game before, however, he refereed Al Masry’s CAF Confederation Cup clash with Al Hilal last May.
