Egypt defeat India, qualify for semi-finals of Special Olympics Unified Cup
Egypt women team have qualified for the semi-finals of the Special Olympics Unified Football World Cup after beating India 3-0 on Wednesday.
The Unified Cup is an international football competition taking place for the first time in Chicago from 17-21 July as part of the 50th anniversary of the Special Olympics celebrations.
The Pharaohs qualified for the tournament after winning the Special Olympics Female Unified MENA’s Regional Cup last January, and were drawn alongside India, South Korea, and Mexico.
Egypt began the tournament with a 4-0 win over South Korea and today they have sealed a place in the semi-finals, defeating India 3-0.
The three goals were all scored in the first-half through Aliaa Shokry and Bassant Mohamed.
Egypt are currently top of group B with six points, while Mexico and India sit second and third with one point, and South Korea languish at the bottom of the group with zero points. However, Mexico and South Korea will still face each other later today.
The Pharaohs will face Mexico on Thursday, July 19 in their final group game ahead of the semi-finals.
