Pharaohs Abroad Roundup: Ghazal features in defeat to Montreal Impact

KingFut rounds up the Pharaohs Abroad action this week to keep you up to date with Egyptian players overseas.

– Vancouver Whitecaps FC (Canada)

July 19 – Canadian Championship – Aly Ghazal played the full match as Vancouver Whitecaps lost 1-0 to Montreal Impact in the first leg of the Canadian Championship semi-finals. Alejandro Silva scored the game’s lone goal in the 58th minute. The two sides will meet in the second leg next week on July 25. Meanwhile, Vancouver return to MLS play against Seattle Sounders on July 21. The Caps currently sit in eighth place in the Western Conference, two points off a play-off berth.

July 21 – MLS – Aly Ghazal came on as a late substitute in the 81st minute as Seattle Sounders defeated Vancouver Whitecaps 2-0 in the MLS. Vancouver’s next game will be against Minnesota United on July 29.

– Orlando City (USA)

July 19 – US Open Cup – Amro Tarek played the full 90 minutes as Philadelphia Union defeated Orlando City 1-0 in the US Open Cup thanks to an early goal scored by Alejandro Bedoya in the the fourth minute. Orlando’s next match will be against Tarek’s former club Columbus Crew on July 22.

Karim Hafez – RC Lens (France)

July 21 – pre-season friendly – Karim Hafez was excluded from the squad as Saint-Etienne defeated Lens 1-0 in a pre-season friendly match, thanks to a late first half goal by Mathieu Debuchy. Lens’ next game will be against Orleans on July 27.

Mohamed Salah – Liverpool FC (England)

July 22 – International Champions Cup – Mohamed Salah didn’t feature as Liverpool suffered a 3-1 loss to Borussia Dortmund inspired by Christian Pulisic in the International Champions Cup. Having taken the lead in the first half through a powerful Virgil van Dijk header, Liverpool looked on course to pick up a convincing win. However, Pulisic’s introduction changed the game as he won and converted a penalty to equalise before scoring on a counter attack soon later. Dortmund made it 3-1 in the dying minutes after Pulisic’s shot rebounded off of Karius towards Bruun Larsen.

Mohamed Elneny – Arsenal (England)

July 25 – International Champions Cup – Arsenal lost to Atlético Madrid 2-1 in their first match of the International Champions Cup as Mohamed Elneny was left out of the squad. Atlético Madrid opened the scoring through Vietto who scored a wonderful header after a great run and cross from Correa. In the beginning of the second half, Emile Smith Rowe scored a wonderful goal from outside the box to equalise for Arsenal. They played penalties after the match ended as a draw which saw Atletico come out on top. Arsenal’s next match in the ICC will be on 28/7 at 1:30 pm CLT against PSG.

Sam Morsy – Wigan (England)

July 25 – Friendly – Sam Morsy featured as Wigan drew 1-1 against Chesterfield in a pre-season friendly match. Wigan’s next match will be against Rangers on July 29.

Ramadan Sobhi – Huddersfield Town (England)

July 25 – Friendly – Ramadan Sobhi played 45 minutes as Huddersfield Town defeated Lyon 3-1 in a pre-season friendly. Huddersfield’s next game will be against Bologna on July 31.
