Saudi Arabian Football Federation announces a Saudi-Egyptian Super Cup
The general secretary of the Saudi Football Federation Loay Al Sebeiy has confirmed that a Saudi-Egyptian Super Cup will take place.
The Saudi Football Federation had previously confirmed that these matches will not be taking place due to problems in Al Ahly’s and Zamalek’s schedule.
Speaking to LTC Channel, Al Sebeiy has explained the problems in the schedule, saying: “We were supposed to play our matches on the 24th and 25th of July, but Al Ahly are playing a match in Botswana in the African Champions League on July 28th.
“The first game between Al Ahly and Al Hilal will take place in Riyadh and the second game between Zamalek and Al Ittihad will take place in Cairo.
“Our priority right now is to find a specific date that suits all parties. As for the prize money of both tournaments, it will be announced later,” he concluded.
The last time a Saudi-Egyptian Super Cup was held was in 2001 and 2003. Zamalek were the first Egyptian team to win this tournament back in 2003, where they beat Al Ittihad in a penalty shootout.
