South Africa forward Percy Tau joins Brighton & Hove Albion
The 24-year-old has joined the Seagulls for an undisclosed fee and will be loaned out for the upcoming season to “get some experience of European football.”
Tau began his career at Mamelodi Sundowns in 2014, making over 100 appearances for them and helping the club win two league titles, one CAF Champions League, and one CAF Super Cup.
He also won the Premier Soccer League’s top goal scorer last season as well as being named the Player of the Season for 2017-18.
“Percy is a player we have highlighted for the future‚ and there is no doubting his talent‚ having been voted South African player of the season,” manager Chris Hughton told the club’s website.
“Percy will go out on loan this season‚ play regularly and get some experience of European football.
“We will be watching his progress and monitoring his development over the season,” he added.
This is the first time that a player moves directly to the Premier League from South Africa since Kagisho Dikgacoi left Golden Arrows for Fulham in 2009.
Percy Tau also becomes Brighton’s seventh summer signing after goalkeepers Jason Steel and David Button, defenders Bernardo and Leon Balogun, striker Florin Andone, and Mali international Yves Bissouma.
He has been capped by his country 11 times, scoring five international goals.
