Liverpool thrash Manchester United in International Champions Cup
Liverpool earned a 4-1 win over over Manchester United at Michigan Stadium on Saturday in their final match of the US tour.
Mohamed Salah won a penalty for the Reds in the 28th minute after he was fouled by Demitri Mitchell inside the box. Sadio Mane converted from the spot to give his side a 1-0 lead in the International Champions Cup encounter.
However, Liverpool’s lead didn’t last long as United equalised the scoreline only three minutes later. Andreas Pereira’s free-kick went over the wall and into the top corner, as the first half ended in a 1-1 draw.
Following a number of substitutions in the second half, Liverpool regained their lead. Substitute Daniel Sturridge found Xherdan Shaqiri pass before sending a right-footed shot to make it 2-1 in the 65th minute.
Eight minutes later, Liverpool were awarded another penalty and Sheyi Ojo scored from the spot to double his side’s lead.
Shaqiri then scored an overhead kick with less than eight minutes to go to seal a 4-1 victory for Liverpool.
This marked Liverpool’s final US tour game, as they now return to Merseyside before travelling to face Napoli in Dublin on Saturday, then hosting Torino at Anfield on August 7.
