FA have announced the appointment of Tunisian manager Faouzi Benzarti as the new head coach of the Tunisian national team on a two-year contract.

The announcement was made just two weeks after former manager Nabil Maaloul announced that he terminated his contract with the Tunisia FA.

Maaloul had led Tunis to their first World Cup since 2006 and even though they performed well during the tournament and finished third in their group, the 55-year-old decided to terminate his contract with the Tunisia FA and took charge of Qatari champions Al Duhail.

After Maaloul’s departure the Tunisia FA decided appoint experienced manager Faouzi Benzarti as the new head coach of the Tunisian national team. The 68-year-old had already took charge of the Carthage eagles twice, once in 2009 and the second time in 2011.

He also coached a number of big Tunisian and African clubs such as Esperance, Club Africain, Club Sportif Sfaxien and Etoile du Sahel.

During his illustrious managerial career Benzarti was crowned Tunisian champion nine times including five times with Esperance, three times Etoile du Sahel and once with Club Africain.

He won the CAF Champions League once during the 1993/1994 season with Esperance as well as the Tunisian Cup and the CAF Confederation Cup with Etoile du Sahel.

Tunisia are now sitting on top of group J of the 2019 AFCON qualification after beating Egypt 1-0 in the opening game. Their next game will be against Swaziland.
