Carteron names his Al Ahly squad for league opener against Ismaily

Al Ahly coach has announced his team’s squad list for their 2018/2019 opener against Ismaily.

Al Ahly will initiate their campaign as the league title holders having won the last version in 2017/2018, achieving a record 40th time as Premier League champions. The Red Devils, however, are set to face a stiff competition from arch-rivals Zamalek and Pyramids who were majorly active in the summer transfer window, in addition to Ismaily and Al Masry.

Carteron has excluded experienced right back Ahmed Fathi from the match squad as he hasn’t reached full fitness after he sustained an injury just before Al Ahly’s encounter against Township Rollers in CAF Champions League. The same goes to Al Ahly captain Hossam Ashour who was injured during the African tie.

Mido Gaber, Phakamani Mahlambi and Mohamed Naguib were also among the omitted players from the list, while Salah Mohsen and Nasser Maher were called up for the clash.

Al Ahly’s full squad:

Goalkeepers: Sherif Ekramy, Mohamed El-Shennawy

Defenders: Saad Samir, Ayman Ashraf, Ali Maaloul, Salif Coulibaly, Mohamed Hany

Midfielders: Hesham Mohamed, Walid Soliman, Mohamed Sherif, Ahmed Hamdy, Amr El-Sulaya, Akram Tawfik, Nasser Maher, Mo’men Zakaria, Islam Mohareb

Strikers: Marwan Mohsen, Salah Mohsen, Walid Azarou.
