Al Ahly to sell South Africa international Phakamani Mahlambi
Al Ahly director of transfers Mohamed Fadl has confirmed that Phakamani Mahlambi will leave the club this summer but only for the right price.
The 20-year-old has been registered in the club’s squad following Junior Ajayi’s lengthy injury, but that didn’t stop Phakamani from handing in a transfer request.
He wasn’t included in Al Ahly’s squads for Ismaily and Al Masry clashes and was fined for missing a training session last week.
Mamelodi Sundowns are among the clubs to have expressed an interest in signing the South African international, but Fadl revealed that their offer for the player was not good enough.
“We have signed Phakamani Mahlambi for €1.3 million, but we might sell him for around $2 million because we see him as a very good player,” Mohamed Fadl said.
“He is a big player and plays for the South African national team, but we have very special foreign players, and that’s why he is currently in this situation.
“Phakamani doesn’t want to continue with Al Ahly and we have got approval from Patrice Carteron to sell him. We can’t force him to stay.
“But we can’t buy Phakamani for €1.3 million and then sell him for only €500,000,” he added.
Signed from Bidvest Wits in 2017 the South African winger hasn’t exactly set Al Ahly on fire, having only made 15 appearances, in which he’s registered a single goal and five assists.
