Ian Rush: Salah must keep the bar high for himself
Salah was one of the most outstanding players in Europe last season, after he ended the English Premier League being the top goal scorer with record 32 goals and leading Liverpool to the Champions League final for the first time in 11 years.
The 26-year-old was crowned as the Premier League’s Player of the Season for season 2017/2018.
Salah will now be hoping to enjoy a second successful season at Anfield as he prepares for the new campaign, and Rush demanded that the Egypt international should outperform his own self of last season.
“Records are there to be beaten. If he beats it, he deserves it,” Rush told Second Captains podcast.
“When I scored the 47 goals, I won three trophies. People saying it is a one-off season. I disagree with that. He has to up his game. Salah, Firmino and Mane will always score goals.”
Liverpool will kick off their new Premier League campaign when they take on West Ham United at Anfield on Sunday.
