Zamalek draw 0-0 with Qadsia in first leg of Arab Club Champions Cup
Zamalek’s opening match of the Arab Club Champions Cup finished scoreless against Kuwaiti club Qadsia on Saturday.
Zamalek XI vs Qadsia: Gennesh, Hazem, Mahmoud Alaa, El-Wensh, Fattouh; Mahmoud Abdel-Aziz, Tarek Hamed; Obama, Kahraba, Ibrahim, Kasongo.
Esperance are the holders of the Arab Cup after they defeated Al-Faisaly in the final last year.
The match was rather uneventful, with the Kuwaiti club playing strong defense against the White Castle.
Throughout the first 15 minutes, Zamalek were constantly on the attack.
Kahraba tried his efforts from outside of the box on the 26th minute, however, it was handled very well from the Qadsia keeper.
The match remained 0-0 at halftime, with the Egyptian side having dominated the match.
Zamalek manager Christian Gross decided to switch things up in the second half. First bringing on Hamid Ahdad for Ibrahim Hassan. He also switched Kahraba for Mohamed Antar.
Ferjani Sassi made his debut for the club with less than 10 minutes remaining after replacing Hazem Emam.
Zamalek failed to create a goal at the Borg El Arab, and the match ended 0-0.
Ismaily, Al Ahly, and Ittihad of Alexandria are also playing in the competition, with the three Egyptian clubs playing Al-Kuwait, Al Nejmeh, and Espérance respectively.
Zamalek next play Misr El-Makkasa on the 16th of August in the league. They resume play in the Arab Club Champions Cup against Qadsia on September 28th.
