Walid Azarou scores as Al Ahly defeat Esperance in Rades to top Group A

Azarou scored as defeated 1-0 away from home in the fifth fixture of the CAF Champions League group stages to secure qualification to the quarter finals.

Esperance started the game fiercely as the Tunisian side dominated and maintained position.

In the sixth minute Anice Badri came on to replace Bilel Mejri who got injured in the first minute of the match.

31 minutes into the game, Walid Azarou took the lead for the Reds against the run of play after taking advantage of Esperance’s defensive howler.

Esperance continued to push forward after the restart aiming to score the equalizer, however, the Red Devils maintained strong defence and composure.

The Tunisian side came close to score the leveller in the 83rd minute, but Sameh Derbali’s dangerous attempt went inches wide.

Following the win, Al Ahly tops Group A table with ten points, and are set to face Wadi Degla on the 21st of August in the Egyptian Premier League.
