Carteron: We’re now aiming to beat Kampala City to top Group A
Al Ahly boss Patrice Carteron praised his players after snatching an important 1-0 away win in the fifth fixture of the CAF Champions League group stages that helped the team secure a ticket to quarter finals.
The Red Devils are now on top of Group A with ten points after three wins, one draw and one loss. Carteron and his men will face Kampala City on August 29 at Borg Al Arab stadium in Alexandria in their final group stage match.
“We played a strong defensive match and we were able to take advantage of Esperance’s mistakes,” the French coach told beIN Sports TV channel after the game.
Carteron assured that it was important for him that the team carried on with positive results and secure qualification to the next round.
“Now we’re aiming to beat Kampala City to top Group A,” he added. “I’ll be waiting for Al Ahly fans in this game.”
He also spoke to Al Ahly TV channel explaining his tactics against Esperance saying that he was expecting a harsh performance from the Tunisian side as they hoped to secure their position as group leaders.
“We were up to it and performed well when it came to strong physical tackles,” Carteron said.
The coach added that he believes Esperance’s Cameroonian midfielder Franck Kom should have been sent off and not just receive a yellow card due to his tough tackles with Al Ahly players.
