Nagy discusses Egypt’s goalkeeping choices after El-Hadary’s retirement
Egypt’s goalkeeping coach Ahmed Nagy spoke about his the staff’s choices for goalies who will be included in the national team’s upcoming training camp as they prepare for facing Niger in African Cup of Nations qualifications.
Former Al Ahly and Egypt’s goalkeepers coach under Hector Cuper’s stint Ahmed Nagy remained in his post and is currently working with new head coach Javier Aguirre along with assistant coach Hany Ramzy to choose Egyptian goalkeepers who will be included in the team’s training camp and squad.
“Mohamed El-Shennawy got his chance and proved himself well, Gennesh is also performing well and we’re waiting for Mohamed Awad to play in the Saudi Professional League,” Ahmed Nagy told ON Sport TV channel. “We are also following all goalkeepers and we’re looking at a few names like Amer Amer and El-Mahdy Soliman.”
“We are also waiting for the return of Ahmed El-Shennawy,” he added. “As for Sherif Ekramy, we chose him for a specific occasion in which we needed his international experience but including him in our choices now without him playing for Al Ahly is of course not possible.”
“If he was still available we would have included him in our list of goalkeepers to follow and one of the options to choose from,” he explained.
The Pharaohs start their qualifying matches on September 9th as they’re set to take on Niger in Aguirre’s first match as Egypt’s head coach.
