Owen: Salah no one-season wonder, Al Ahly very popular team
The Egyptian international took Liverpool by storm last season, scoring 44 goals following his arrival from Roma and became the Premier League’s best ever goalscorer in a 38-game campaign with 32 goals.
He helped the Reds reach the UEFA Champions League final and secure a fourth-place finish in the Premier League.
His performances were awarded with The Best FIFA Men’s Player of the Year award nomination alongside the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, and Antoine Griezmann.
And Owen says that the reputation of Egyptian football has increased after Mohamed Salah’s exceptional performances with Liverpool.
“Egyptian football has become more popular after Mohamed Salah’s presence,” Owen told Pyramids TV.
“There is also Huddersfield’s Ramadan Sobhi and Mohamed Elneny in Arsenal, they are great representatives of Egyptian football.
“Everyone says that Mohamed Salah is a one-season wonder, but he is brilliant and has proved himself as a world-class player,” he added.
Michael Owen has also praised Cairo giants Al Ahly ahead of their encounter with Wadi Degla on Tuesday, saying: “Al Ahly are a very popular team, and I want to watch them. I like to watch the strikers in particular.”
