Aguirre calls 13 foreign-based players for AFCON qualifier against Niger

Egypt will face Niger on September 8 in the second round of the qualifiers of African showpiece event. The Pharaohs occupy the last place in Group J, which includes Tunisia, Niger and Swaziland, after losing the first round encounter against Carthage Eagles 1-0 in Rades in June 2017.

Aguirre’s called up list has seen the return of Vancouver Whitecaps midfielder Aly Ghazal four years later since his last appearance for Egypt in September 2014 against Tunisia.

New Olympiacos signing Ahmed Hassan Kouka and Al Ain FC winger Hussein El-Shahat were also included in the Mexican manager’s list, meanwhile Abdallah El-Said and Mahmoud Shikabala have been left out.

The 13 foreign-based players:

Mohamed Awad (Al Wehda), Ahmed Hegazi (West Bromwich), Mohamed Salah (Liverpool), Mohamed Elneny (Arsenal), Sam Morsy (Wigan Athletic), Ramadan Sobhi (Huddersfield Town), Ahmed Elmohamady (Aston Villa), Amro Tarek (Orlando City), Aly Ghazal (Vancouver Whitecaps), Mahmoud Trezeguet (Kasimpasa), Amr Wardo (PAOK), Ahmed Hassan Koka (Olympiacos), Hussein El-Shahat (Al Ain).

    At last we have someone who has insight… Who really chooses effective players on the pitch. I think it is a good start that Egyptians might feel optimistic for the upcoming results and cross their fingers for great performance.

    Yeeha! Ghazal and Koka in, El-Said out. Eyes and basic brain function confirmed. It can only get better. Now he only needs to let them play football and his job is 90% done. Shika deserves a chance though.

      Yes – shika should be in as he has something no other player has (dribbling).

      Sha7aat again I was happy when he was left out of the World Cup squad – I’m sorry but the standard of the uae league (in fact all gulf leagues) is just unacceptable.
