Official: Former Louisville center Anas Mahmoud signs for Zamalek
Former Louisville center Anas Mahmoud has signed for Zamalek Basketball Club, the Cairo based club announced on Saturday.
The move will be the start of his professional basketball career, as the 7’0″ center previously played for four years at Louisville.
After not being selected in the 2018 NBA Draft, Mahmoud played for the Memphis Grizzlies in the Summer League; however, he did not sign a deal with an NBA team.
Mahmoud has signed for a two year deal, and will likely star for both Zamalek and for the Egyptian National Team as they resume qualifying for the FIBA World Cup in September.
KingFut spoke with Mahmoud in April, where he spoke on playing with the National Team. “Representing my country is something that I will always take pride in doing! There is no question in my mind that if my name is called I will be there to help my country.”
Al-Ahly are the holders of the Egyptian Cup, as they beat Sporting in the final. Zamalek were eliminated in the semifinals.
