Elmohamady scores in Aston Villa away draw against Reading
The Egypt international has now bagged two goals and assisted once in five games for the Villans in the new season as well as claiming the man of the match award in their win against his ex-club Hull City.
The first half ended goalless after Aston Villa wasted countless chances as they were denied by the crossbar and heroic saves by goalkeeper Vito Mannone.
New signing Anwar El-Ghazi was so close to scoring his first goal for the club on his debut with a powerful strike from outside the box, but his shot was saved superbly by Mannone.
Elmohammady managed to break the deadlock in the 51st minute for the visitors, converting a cross from El-Ghazi with a header from inside the box.
In the dying moments of the game, Southampton loanee Josh Sims was brought down in the box and the hosts were rewarded a penalty. Sam Baldock stepped up and scored the penalty, earning his side a crucial point.
This is Aston Villa’s third consecutive league draw following their two draws against both Ipswich Town and Brentford.
Following the result, Aston Villa stand in fourth place of the Championship table with nine points, four behind leaders Leeds United.
Their next encounter will be in the League Cup against Burton Albion on Tuesday, August 28, while Reading will face Premier League side Watford one day later.
