Al Wahda crowned UAE Super Cup champions after beating Al Ain on penalties
Al Ain came into the game as UAE league and the UAE President’s Cup champions as for Al Wanda they were league runners-up.
Just four minutes into the game Ismail Matar opened the scoring for Al Wanda, then three minutes later Moroccan striker Mourad Batna scored the second goal.
Al Wanda continued their domination throughout the first-half until the 40th minute when Argentinian forward Sebastien Tagliabue scored their third and final goal of the game.
Al Ain were looking for a quick response at the start of the second-half which showed when they scored their first goal in the 62nd minute thanks to Swedish international Marcus Berg.
Eleven minutes later Ibrahim Diaky scored his side’s second goal, four minutes before Caio Fernandes’ equalizer.
The game ended in a 3-3 draw which meant that they had to play a penalty shootout to decide the winner. Al Wahda won 4-3 on penalties with Hussein El-Shahat missing his shot.
Al Ain will start their league campaign on August 31 when they face Emirates FC as for Al Wahda they will face Al-Ittihad Kalba SC in their league opener.
